Mass Customization (MC) aims at providing customized products with efficiency and cost of mass production. It' s a customer-centered producing strategy providing varieties of product to meet customer needs. Product Configuration (PC) in Mass Customization plays an important role in managing product data, reusing existed design resources, and improving customized products' developing ability and efficiency. The knowledge reuse on product configuration can accelerate product configuration speed greatly.The method of using directed hyper-graph to represent knowledge and rules which relate to electro-mechanical products configuration design for Mass Customization and the method of using directed hyper-graph to reason and configure have been studied. The main research contents in this thesis include:1) The configuration design based on Rule Based Reasoning (RBR) and Case Based Reasoning (CBR) has been studied. The validation and solution algorithm based on hyper-graph has been proposed. The expression of rules with directed hyper-graph has been come up with.2) Based on design characteristics of electro-mechanical products, the method of expressing electro-mechanical components and parts, of expressing product nodes, of expressing configuration rules and cases have been explored. A rule library and case library has been built. The integration CBR into RBR has been explored as well.3) The whole process model of configuration design has been explored. The establishment of configuration model and the solving process of configuration design based on hyper-graph have been researched.The foregoing configuration theory has been used to realize a configuration case, Heavy Crane, which is suitable for configuration design. In this case, configuration model, configuration rule and the realization method for configuration design have been explored;this configuration method could effectively cater for the quick configuration design of electro-mechanical products for mass customization.
