Nowadays, the research on low speed and high-torque permanent magnetic synchronous machine are getting more and more attention in the fields of motors, and has great science significance and application value. However, the study of this kind of motor in our country just starts.This paper introduces research methods in detail of this kind of permanent magnetic synchronous machine and selects the typical application field — gearless permanent magnetic synchronous machine in elevator of high efficiency and power density — as the research task. This paper starts the optimization of the electronic, electrical and mechanical incorporate drive system, and research on improving the inner potential waveform and torque ripples at low frequency. According to the optimization of the machine and load, this paper designs the gearless permanent magnetic synchronous machine of high efficiency and power density. It supply with sinusoidal pulse width modifying inverter, suitable for direct drive of elevator and no gear reduction is needed. This system has not only simplified the construction of transmission mechanism, but also increased precision and reliability of the control system. Moreover, it also establishes the base of other drive system of low speed and high torque and has great value.In this paper, electromagnet field calculations, torque ripples calculations, software package design and experimentation of this machine are studied systematically. The contrastive analysis of electromagnet field of permanent magnetic synchronous machines having different design characteristics is made and drew some useful conclusions. According to the feature of low-speed and high-torque permanent magnetic synchronous machine, the output torques are also calculated in different positions based on the ANSYS software.Based on the conventional design methods, this paper uses Java language to write the special design software package. It realized the electromagnet field calculation and simulation of control systems according to start ANSYS and Matlab software respectively. According to the mathematical model and vector control method of permanent magnetic synchronous machine, the drive system was experimented. The results of experiment indicate the correctness of the mathematical model and the feasibility of the control method, and the machine is steadying at low-speed.
