Through many years tests and research by domestic water treatment experts, water treatment technology of potassium permanganate pre-oxidation has got many conclusions used in production. In this paper, the subject investigated is the water of zhangjing river and zishijing river which are the branches of huanpu river and the engineering foundation is shanghai petrochemical water plant meanwhile some ideas are drawn from foreign and domestic research findings. This paper basing on the comprehensive effect of potassium permanganate in modern water industry discusses the comprehensive effect of potassium permanganate pre-oxidation process in modern water industry and summarizes several kinds of likely mechanism about potassium permanganate decontaminating1. Researches indicates pre-oxidation by potassium permanganate treating the raw water of shanghai petrochemical region used in treating a sort of industrial water which contains low concentration silicon can effectively remove manganese ions, micropollutants, turbidity and enhance coagulation and filtering effects to decrease chromaticity when potassium permanganate dose is 0.8mg/L, chorine dose is 2mg/L and alum dose is 8mg/L. Economic analysis indicates that the improved process when decreasing the cost of treating water (the cost decreases to 0.00445yuan/ m3) can meet the requirement of process water, improve the production safety. So, it decreases the total production cost of petrochemical general works.2. Researches indicates pre-oxidation by potassium permanganate treating the raw water of shanghai petrochemical region used in treating domestic water can effectively remove manganese ions, micropollutants, turbidity, enhance coagulation and filtering effects to decrease chromaticity and effectively disinfect water when potassium permanganate dose is 1.2mg/L, chorine dose is 5mg/L and alum dose is 25mg/L.3. Mechanisms analysis indicates the mechanisms of the technology ofpotassium permanganate treating water that can effectively remove organic pollutants, metal ions and algae, enhance coagulation and filtration and disinfect water are oxidation, compound oxidation, catalysis, oxidation by catalysis and adsorption etc.
