CSG dam is a new dam type which use CSG material and constructed with craft of RCC.CSG material is made up with nature or artificial sand and graval materials which mixed with cementing material and constructed with viberating roller.This cemented rockfill has a propety between concrete and rockfill.The section of CSG dam is between concrete gravity dam and concrete facing rockfill dam.CSG dam has the advantage of both concrete gravity dam and concrete facing rockfill dam.It has some particular advantage of its own self.Today, this dam type has been applied to some temporary or permanent project in Japan and in Europe. Papers on CSG or FSHD dam were published casually in china too.Although some people talk about this kind of dam,it's still scarce of the systematic theoretical research in this dam type, let alone application of it in our country.This paper try to do some helpful theoretical research based on colecting materials of theory and application on this dam all of the world. Resort to Ansys,a large finite element software, this paper did some study and get some theoretical harvest on this dam type.Following is all of these.Firstly, by using linear elastic FEM and response spectrum method, the difference between static and dynamic working characterristics of CSG dam with those of gravity dam is compared by modifying the upstream or downstream dam slope. Some rules can been found on the impact of static and dynamic working characterristics of CSG dam following the changing of dam slope. Further more, it can be concluded that symmetric or approximative symmetric section is a suitable one for CSG dam.Secondly, the static and dynamic working characterristics of CSG dam with symmetric section are analyzed and some rules of them following the changing ofdam slope are found. It can be found that a CSG dam with a symmetric dam has excellent working characterristics.Further more, with the decrease of the dam slope, all kind of working performance of it can be improved.Based on this, the design idea of CSG dam is put forwarded.Thirdly, the impact of the seepage permeability of foundation and CSG dam on the dam working characterristics is studied. Some rules are concluded and some advices are given. All these can be conference to actual application of this dam type.Fourthly, the impact of the rigidity of uniform ground and CSG dam on the dam working characterristics is studied. Some rules are concluded and some advices are given.All these can be conference to actual application of this dam type.Fifthly, the impact of the Rigidity of upstream and downstream ground on the dam working characterristics is studied. Some rules are concluded and some advices are given.All these can be conference to actual application of this dam type.Sixly, the probability to construct CSG dam on soft foundation is studied.We can found that it is possible to construct CSG dam on soft foundation such as 0.2Gpa or even softer foundation by some project measures.
