High Temperature Superconducting Transformer is an important research field of superconducting technology applied in power, and electromagnetic field analysis and optimization is groundwork of High Temperature Superconducting Transformer's design and application. The superconducting characteristic of high temperature superconductor material have to be considered when the magnetic field is analyzed, namely the characteristic of critical current and magnetic field. The scholar of superconducting research generally start from electromagnetic field characteristic, try to improve the critical current of superconductor, create a new path for High Temperature Superconducting Transformer's engineering application. The specialty, economical advantage and development perspective of High Temperature Superconducting Transformer were discussed in this paper, also the application of finite element method in engineering was introduced, and the finite element soft ANSYS was used to analyze the magnetic field calculation of High Temperature Superconducting Transformer. BASED on the magnetic field analysis of High Temperature Superconducting Transformer, the magnetic forces suffered by high temperature superconducting windings were calculated。With the foundation of magnetic field analysis of High Temperature Superconducting Transformer, the AC loss were calculated through the program writed with ANSYS parameter develop language(APDL). BASED on the analysis of magnetic filed, magnetic forces and AC loss, we compared the solenoidal windings and the pancake windings, and then give the ranges that each winding can be used. Based on the basic principle of electromagnetics, the windings of the high temperature superconducting transformer are optimized. The advantages and disadvantages of the various optimizing methods are gained through the finite element analysis on the megnetic field around the windings optimized, which are prepared for the unitary optimizing of the high temperature superconducting transformer in the future.
