Roller Compacted Concrete Dam (RCCD) is a new type of dam, which has been developed quickly and applied extensively. RCCD's structure and seepage are very different with the regular concrete dam due to its particular process. In this paper, systematic study is made on the characteristics of structure and seepage of RCCD's layer. The main contents are as follows:(1) The layer effect zones of RCCD are characterized with gradually changeable structure. In light of this characteristic, the analysis model of the principle of gradual change of the effect zones for RCC dams is established by taking advantage of the complex material theory and the idea of series-wound and shunt-wound connection. On the basis of this model, profound analysis and research are made on the change principle of such parameters about the layer effect zones as the instantaneous Young's modulus, the thickness of effect zone, the delayed Young's modulus and viscosity coefficient, and finally the method is given to accurate them.(2) Concerning the rheological properties of RCCD described by three-parameter solid model, three-dimensional viscoelastic analysis model is structured to reflect the gradual change characteristic of calculation parameters in the effect zones. Besides this, the common FEM software Marc is applied to develop the corresponding viscoelastic program.(3) In addition, the hydraulic effect zone of RCCD's layer is characterized with seepage gradual change. In this paper, the seepage analysis model is put forward, and the corresponding analysis method is raised to determine the permeability coefficient and the thickness of the hydraulic effect zone.(4) Great efforts are made to develop the 3D seepage analysis model and put forward the resolution to the key problems of the seepage and layer seepage element.(5) The factors influencing on the RCCD's layer damage are deeply analyzed, and the corresponding failure criteria are established.
