With many engineering properties including high density, low compression, high permeability, small deformation under loading and fine bearing capacity, rockfill has been widely applied in the construction of rockfill dam, railway and express highway. Combined with the scientific research projects of the pumped storage power stations in Yixing, Mashan and Xianju, seepage and seepage deformation characteristics are studied by the seepage tests and the seepage deformation tests in the laboratory. Specific contents are described as follows:1. The permeameter for coarse-grained soil is introduced. And the steps and matters needing attention when using the permeameter are also described.2. By the results of seepage tests, the scope of the permeability coefficient of rockfill is summed up. And the effects of different saturation ways, seepage directions, particle size and mudstone content on the permeability coefficient of rockfill are explored. All mechanics of different influencing factors are analyzed.3. The scopes of the critical hydraulic gradient and the failure hydraulic gradient of rockfill are summed up by the results of seepage deformation tests. The process of seepage deformation of rockfill is described. The effects of seepage directions and the content of fine stuff on the critical hydraulic gradient and the failure hydraulic gradient are explored. And the mechanics of the influencing factors are analyzed briefly.
