Urban water distribution network is an important part of water-supply system. And its reliability has significant influence on social and economic benefits of the water-supply system as a whole. Mechanical failure and hydraulic performance failure are two key factors that impact on reliability of water distribution network. For truly reflecting practical reliability of realistic water distribution network system, a in-depth research is made on reliability of water distribution network in this paper. On the basis of the existing achievements, a new method is presented in the dissertation for evaluation of reliability of water distribution network system by combining the layout of network with uncertainties of the hydraulic condition, namely by combining mechanical failure with hydraulic performance failure. In this paper the reliability of water distribution network is analyzed and calculated by simulation, and researched the relationship between the expenditure and the reliability of the whole water distribution network. Detailed work and major conclusion are as follows:(1) Analyze and research the reliability of water distribution network by combining the layout of network with uncertainties of the hydraulic condition. In the research, the node-pressure method is introduced for the hydraulic simulation and calculation, and then using the minimum cutting method to establish the reliability model, combining simulation results and the reliability model of water pipe network to calculate the reliability. Take into account the changes of the nodes flow for the hydraulic simulation, the model have been improved, the result using this model to calculate much more accord with practicality. It is important to optimize design and rebuilding of water distribution network system that changes of flows are considered fully.(2) In this paper the reliability model of water transportation network system is established to calculate and study the reliability. And the relationship between connecting pipes and system reliability is analyzed.(3) The relationship between system reliability and cost of water distribution network is researched in this paper. The various measures to improve the reliability of the entire piperesearched in this paper. The various measures to improve the reliability of the entire pipe network system have been analyzed. Those measures include appending connecting pipes, increasing pipe's diameters of water transportation network system, and increasing pipe's diameters of water distribution network system. The project to improve the system reliability by appending pipes in the water distribution network system have also been analyzed and contrasted.
