Structural damage detection is an active research domain in current structure engineering and has strong engineering application background. The correlative theory and technology are developing continuously. A damage detection approach using time series analysis was proposed by the international experts in recent years, it is an entirely new research method and it belongs to advanced field .In this paper, the application of this approach is explored associated with real engineer. The main contents of the thesis are summarized as the follows:1. The development condition of structural damage detection is stated and both the advantages and disadvantages of different methods are generalized. The basic concepts such as system & time series and programming language involved in this method are simply introduced .2. The basic idea and some kinds of the common time series models and the development characteristics of time series are explained in detail. The identification of model type and the estimation of model parameters are investigated as well as the order determination of model. How to apply time series analysis in structural damage detection according to the relations between model and system and how to extract the damage sensitive feature are also explained, and it is tested by the concrete example.3. Light-gauge steel structure, as the research background of this paper, is a new type of light steel structure which has been adopted abroad widely as a kind of architecture form and just has been developed later in our country these years. Not long ago, a brand-new construction system named websteel environment-protecting residence which is exploited by Qingdao maihua websteel structure residential exploitation Ltd., a joint venture financed by China and Canada. This websteel system has passed the result evaluation masterminded by the science and technology developmental promotion center of the ministry of construction. Through the shaking table experimental data when the Light-gauge steel structure is undamaged or damaged, time series models are respectively constructed and the value of the damage sensitive feature is computed .A good result is achieved with the comparation of the values of DSF ,which can gratify the request of engineering accuracy.
