Bridges are the hinges of traffic system and play an important role in national economic and society. Recently, bridge accidents occur from time to time, which bring more and more attention to safety of existing bridges all over the world. Now the safety evaluation of bridge is becoming a popular problem in the research of bridge engineering. Engineering information including examination data, drawings, sheets are managed in the conventional bridge safety evaluation. This method is inefficient in managing and evaluating bridge so that we can not grasp the whole massages of project. In this paper, we put forward a method to evaluate the safety of CFST Arch Bridge based on GIS. We have applied this theory to a fact to explain this method and we have achieved some results. In this paper we have done some work as follows:1 .Expatiate the existing methods of the safety evaluation of bridges, and probe into its connotation and meaning about the safety evaluation of bridges. After discussing the foundations of the evaluation on bridges in the domestic and international at present thoroughly, we propose a complete evaluation model to evaluate the safety of the CFST Arch Bridges based on AHP (the Analytic Hierarchy process). In this model we give it's complete index system according to the practice of the CFST Arch Bridges.2. The theory of GIS is simply explained in this paper. The method is simply introduced in which GIS is applied in the evaluation of bridges. We propose the security evaluation of CFST based on GIS, This provides a new thinking on the security appraisal of the bridge.3.To set up the system of the safety evaluation of CFST Arch Bridges in the engineering background of the Nannidu Bridge in Enshi region, we programme with Visual Basic programming language and the software of Geostar. This system includes several modules: weight input, comprehensive evaluation, revelation of the bridge model. The intuitionistic-safety evaluation of CFST has been realized, whichwill improve the objectivity and efficiency of the safety evaluation work of CFST greatly. The difficulties in programing is explained and several methods is discussed on visiting the database.The safety evaluation of the CFST Arch Bridges in an intuitionistic way is been studying in the world which is a more synthesis subject and the researches are extremely difficult. But its application prospect is very wide, and has an important theory value and practical value. The approach of this text is used for the first time and get some achievements. This method will improve the objectivity and efficiency of the safety evaluation work of CFST greatly. Along with thorough research and an urgent need for engineering application, this studying field will be developed in depth.
