When a driver is not familiar with the city's environment, the query system in Vehicle Navigation could provide querying service about destination position and interrelated information, in order to assist the driver to reach the terminus more quickly. Presently, the query system in Vehicle Navigation is lack of intelligence and the information in it is also not enough for users' order, due to the limited storage and unfounded information server. Improving the intelligence and enlarging the information has become more necessary for satisfying users' requirement.To improve the situation illustrated above, the theory and methods of Artificial Intelligence and knowledge Engineering has been introduced in this paper. A query system based on knowledge in vehicle navigation has been designed and implemented. The main research work is as follows:(1) On the basis of analyzing the users' demand on information adequacy and intelligent degree of query service in Vehicle Navigation, this paper has analyzed functional requirement of the system, designed function modules of the whole system, and also the relations among them.(2) Based on the system analysis, the main frame of the Intelligent Query System build on C/S mode has been proposed. The information interface and data processing module of the Intelligent Query System has been emphasized in this paper. The embedded GIS and the route planning module have also been designed. Aiming at the characteristics of information transmission on C/S mode, this paper has done research on the Information representation based on XML.(3) After designing the system, this paper has also developed an intelligent query system based on knowledge in vehicle navigation, and has reached a satisfied effect.It is practical of the research in this paper on related technique and implementation of the intelligent query system in vehicle navigation. The fuzzy information processing, results display and route planning have been actualized in embedded Vehicle Navigation Terminal;a background information service center has been build, and the information transmission between the Vehicle Terminal and the center has been implemented. This research has effectively improved the intelligent level of vehicle navigation system, enlarged the covering range of intelligent query information, and made the navigation system more convenient for users.
