| Magnetic fluid is one kind of new function material which is stable colloidal suspensions of submicroscopic susceptibilities, possessing both magnetism characteristic of solid magnetic material and fluidity of the liquid. Since NASA discovered this kind of material, magnetic fluid has already played a widely role in many domains such as electricity, machinery, medicine, physics, chemistry and so on.Magnetic fluid has the flotation property in the excited magnetic field. If the intensity of the excited magnetic field changed, apparent density of the magnetic fluid will change. That causes objects of different gravity to sink or float, and then the specific gravity of objects is obtained.In this paper, the principle and the application of magnetic fluid was studied in the specific gravity test of objects. The magnetic field was calculated and analyzed. Test installation was designed, including power source, coil and so on. Experiments were carried out on the basic physical properties of the magnetic fluid, including density, the tension, the viscosity, the magnetization intensity and so on, and the results were analyzed. Experiments were carried out on the specific gravity test of objects and the results were analyzed. Finally, corresponding variation was obtained between the excited magnetic field(exciting current) with the specific gravity of objects. Experiments prove that the effect is better, and good foundation has been made for further applications. |
