Study on unsaturateed soil is an new subject matter in geotechnical engineering world and many people work for the field because of the immaturity in the field. As for the majority of Hebei province is semiarid zone, unsaturateed soil is universal and the study of unsaturateed soil is an important significance for engineering practice. Therefore, the soil samples of Shijiazhuang are studied and the shear strength parameters of unsaturateed soil which is easy to be used in engineering by triaxial tests is discussed.Numerical simulation of excavation is done by finite element programming Plaxis and the soil pressure of excavation witch are calculated by theoretical calculation and numerical method is compared. The result show that the relationship between logarithm of cohesive strength and moisture content is linearity .The relationship is to be used in engineering easier than the traditional fussy way which is relate with suction. And the obvious infection of water content on excavation is proved by the simulation of finite element programming Plaxis. The theoretical calculation of soil pressure is different to the method of numerical simulation in unsaturateed soil field.
