This research topic is a subproject of Technicalization of the Ecological Experience of Tradition Folk House, one of the projects of the National Nature Fund that is presided by my supervisor, Prof. Liu Jiaping. The emphasis of this project is to get the experience and theory that can prove that the traditional architecture is adaptable to climate.This text studies traditional folk house from the point of view of technology, including climatologic, architectural physics, hydraulics and wind pressure theory. Studying the roof of traditional folk house can be helpful to enhance comfortability of residence. Studying reasonable technologies in traditional folk house and generalizing experiences can be helpful to local construction and sustainable development.The design and construction of the traditional folk house considered and defended the disadvantageous of the outdoor climate in everywhere, and created the habitable indoor climate.Prevention against solar heat radiation, heat insulation, ventilation and heat dispersal, waterproof, windproof of the roof and outward wall reflect the adaptability to the climate of the traditional folk house. This text centers on the investigation of the prevention against solar heat radiation, waterproof and windproof.In the investigation of prevention against of solar heat radiation and utilization of solar heat radiation, this text used the theories of Climatologic, Architectural Physics, Hydraulics and Wind Pressure Theory to deduce the computing formulas of the roof, which gave quantitative bases for the evaluation of the design of the prevention against of solar heat radiation and utilization of solar heat radiation of tradition folk house.In the waterproof of the roof of tradition folk house , the text constructed physicalmodels of the gradient for the tile roof based on the local climate of the rain-belt, ten minute-maximum rainfall and Hydraulics formula , moreover, deduced the computing formula of the gradient for the tile roof based on the size of the tile, the span of the folk house and the rainfall. Moreover, the text deduced the computing formula of application qualification of the marl roof based on the rain time and the marl infiltration speed for water. They gave quantitative bases for the evaluation of the design of the prevention against of rain of the roof of tradition folk house. Text also explain climatically the reason why only these are lots of thatching in Yunnan zone based on the aquiferous capability of the couch grass and stability of stake.In the windproof of the roof of tradition folk house , the text constructed physical models of the surface wind pressure for the sloping roof based on the local climate of the windy zone, ten minute-maximum wind speed and wind pressure formula , moreover, deduced the computing formula of the surface wind pressure for the sloping roof based on ten minute-maximum , the size of the tile and the gradient for the tile roof. The result of wind pressure formula is as same as the fact recorded in literature. The text deduced the computing formula of the angle for the rain drop wave in the wind based on rain drop speed near the ground, the average speed during the year. They gave quantitative bases for the evaluation of the design of the prevention against of wind of the roof of tradition folk house.In the compartmentalization of area coverage of climate element for roof gradient of tradition folk house, the text bring forward four zones, which are marl roof, underlayer-marl-superstratum -tile roof, thatching roof and solo tile roof.
