Several high-speed railways of our country are constructed one by one with the official approval of The Middle and Long Term Plan of Chinese Railway. For the rapidity and traffic density of trains on high-speed railway, larger traction power is needed, so the electric power supply is adopted. The all-parallel AT traction system is the most suitable system to supply the power of high-speed railway because of its characters of higher transport power, lower voltage drop.Fault location is important to ensure the railway's power supply to be in good conditions and to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of the railway transportation. It is necessary to analyze the all-parallel AT traction system and find fault location theory so as to develop a fault locator which can be applied to the high-speed railway networks. The various faults are analyzed systemically on the theory and the current distribution regularity is found. On the basis of the current distribution regularity, the theory of fault location and ways of identification of various faults and fault line are present. The factors that may influence the fault locating accuracy are analyzed one by one and the method for compensation of the impact is provided. Then the simulation model is built to analyze the impact of various faults and the results of digital simulations indicate the correctness of these principles. On the basis of theory analysis, the fault location proposal applied to the all-parallel AT traction system is presented so as to auto-diagnose the condition of the electrical traction net and locate the fault. The theory of fault location, the theory to start fault location, synchronization ways, digital signal process ways, and the hardware and software configuration are discussed in the proposal.
