The usage history of the timber constructions is long in our country. In the underdeveloped regions where the wood resources is abundant, the timber constructions still are the most popular structures in village buildings. The timber constructions are constructed with few norms and regulations concerning the earthquake-resistance in villages. As a result, the seismic performance of timber constructions can not get assurance.This article introduces in detail four kinds of timber constructions which is commonly used in villages, analyzes the characteristics of every kind of timber construction, describes the walls which is in common use in the timber constructions and the combination of the walls and the timber frames.This article analyzes the seismic damage loss caused by former earthquakes, sums up easily-damaged parts of timber structures and the seismic damage of walls of timber constructions. Moreover, the reasons of these breakages are analyzed.Constructional measures are put forward aiming at the seismic damages of timber constructions in this article. These constructional measures can improve the seismic performance of timber constructions and reduce the seismic loss.By theoretical analysis and field reasearches on site of Lijiang, Dali, Jianchuan in Yunnan Prov., this article discuss deeply the seismic performance of timber constructions commonly used in villages and put forward corresponding constructional measures.
