Since the computer-based system for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis plays an important role in predictive maintenance, safety assurance and efficiency improvement, more and more attention is being paid to this technology. This monitoring and diagnosis system which is based on Windows XP and is designed for rotating machinery, has powerful ability in real-time monitoring , data management, fault intelligence diagnosis and analysis. The system that contained portable function makes it have high quality-price ratio, and has been widely used for common equipments.This system cans not only on-line monitor but also off-line analysis because it integrated the PC and the portable apparatus well. This paper is based on the project from one chemical plant of Petro-China. At first, the design idea of the project, structure every function module and the features of this system are introduced. Then some methods about Visual C++ and application of expert system in fault diagnosis system are proposed. And then the fault mechanism of rotating machinery be discussed detailed, and all kinds of fault reasons and the table concluded by J.S.Sohre are presented.
