Today, more and more aspheric optical elements are used widely in optical system. The aspheric optical element has many merits, for example, correcting optical aberrations, improving image quality, extending range of action, simplifying system organization, reducing the cost and reducing weight. But traditional methods have a lot of shortcoming when we product the aspheric optical, so Computer Controlled Optical Surfacing (CCOS), which has the merit of the removal of deterministic, has been used in the domain of aspheric machining. In this article some basic problems in the CCOS are studied on the Aspheric Optical Compound Machine Tool (AOCMT). The main contents and innovations include:[1]. The deterministic model is built for grinding and polishing processes. The dual rotator is introduced, and then kinematic principles are applied to deduce the removal function of the polishing pad of dual rotator according to the Preston assumption. The character of the removal function is studied. A universal algorithm is proposed for the polishing pad of complex shape. The reason of high to middle frequency error is analysis.[2]. The problem of edge effect is studied. When the polishing tool moves along the edge of the workpiece, the theoretical removal function model is not suitable for the machining practice (the edge effect). The amendment model of the removal function is set up. Theoretical basis is given for solving the edge effect problem.[3]. The polishing technology of CCOS is studied by a series of experiments. The effect of polishing process parameters on the removal efficiency and the stability of the removal function are studied, which include the polishing compound, the density of the polishing fluid, PH of the polishing fluid, the polishing velocity, the polishing pressure and so on. Finally, a suit of effective process parameters are given and better experimental result are obtain.
