Due to the reciprocities between steel and concrete of reinforced concrete members, concrete cover acts as fire protection for steel of RC members at elevated temperature, the RC members has good fire resistance. A new notion—equivalent fire load and a simplified method used to calculate the equivalent fire load and fire resistance are given in this paper, the main contents as follow:(1) The research fruits on thermal properties and mechanics of steel and concrete inside and outside of country are summed up.(2) The methods used to determine the temperature field of RC members' cross section are introduced.(3) One of Methods utilized to obtain the fire resistance for RC members is introduced.(4) Definition of equivalent fire load is given, the theoretical model for simplified calculation is deduced, the academic calculation of equivalent fire load for RC columns, beams and simple frame is carried out in this paper. The results calculated by the simplified method relatively agree with the experimental results inside and outside of country.
