Aerodrome construction relates to a great deal of factors such as weather, topography, geology, noise and the distance with the city. In the initial stages of the aerodrome construction, the technology and methods adopted to evaluate the site selection, engineering geology and environment will directly affect on aerodrome construction rationality and budget.Traditional construction methods firstly in the small scale topographic map, choose several feasible options, through field reconnaissance to confirm the optimize region. There is some disadvantage as following: the kind of designs based on the topographic map doesn't conformity with the real landform so well as; the plan and construction have less feasibility, and misjudge or omit to geological phenomenon easily. Hence, it can't determine a comparatively economical, rational design plan in time. The 3D Visualization of RS Images can reflect the true terrain condition, show the physiognomy and surface features, which facilitate the extraction of regional terrain, geology information and confirming the optimize region. The 3D Visualization of RS Images not only makes up the shortage of the traditional method, meanwhile, it offers science basis and the re-utilization of the achievement for project layout.Based on the KANGDING aerodrome construction, the paper discusses the function and meaning of the 3D visualization of RS images technique in the aerodrome construction project. In the initial stages of the aerodrome geology exploration, it applies the advanced technology including RS techniques, digital image processing techniques, virtual reality and digital photograph measure, and so on. The paper synthetically evaluated landform, geology, surface and physiognomy by right of simulating 3D visualizing RS dynamical models. The method offers science foundation for the decision-makers and operators of the aerodrome building.The thesis focuses on the following items:(1) RS images digital processing.
