The domestic and foreign research situation of concrete faced cemented-rockfill dam (Abbr. CFCRD) is introduced at first. CFCRD is a kind of special concrete faced rockfill dam (Abbr. CFRD) with many advantages, but its application is vacant in our country.The nonlinear finite element method is used to calculate the stress and deformation of CFCRD's dam body and faceplate. The parameters of Duncan E-μ model are changed when the content of cement in dam body material is changed. Thereby three typical cemented-rockfills are chose to analyze the changes of stress and deformation, and then the result is compared with normal rockfill.Under normal conditions, monolithic stability of CFCRD can meet demands. Based on Swedish slice method and simplified bishop method, dam slope stability can also meet demand. When content of cement in CFCRD body material is changed, the stability calculating result is changed too. Monolithic stability safety coefficient is changeless. Dam slope stability safety coefficient augments along with the increase of cement content.Nonlinear mathematical programming method is used in CFCRD optimal design. Optimal mathematical model is created with construction cost as the objective function, angles of dam slope as the design variables, geometric and mechanical constraints as the constrained conditions, and use penalty function method to solve the model. After optimization, stress and deformation are calculated, and stability is analyzed. Based on Swedish slice method, the most dangerous slip circles of different dam materials are given out. Stress, deformation and stability analysis of the same cemented-rockfill dam are compared before and after optimization.The dam slope of CFCRD is steeper than CFRD, so its saving quality of stone is more than CFRD and the cost is little than CFRD. CFCRD is economical.
