To solve the problem caused by energy crisis and environmental pollution, the exploitation and utilization of biomass energy has been paid more attentions during these years. To convert the biomass energy thermally by pyrolysis is regarded as a significant technology. It acts not only as an essential step in biomass gasification and combustion, but also as an independent technology resulting in high energy density products. So research on biomass pyrolysis is good at enhancing the capability of utilization of biomass energy in our country. Under the supports of National Natural Scientific Foundation (50025618, 50176046), a detailed research was carried out to understand the pyrolysis mechanism of biomass.A comprehensive experiments were carried out on a radiation heat reactor to investigate the influence of the reaction parameters on the production of bio-oil, char and gas for the pyrolysis of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. We get the conclusion that temperature is the most important parameter on the pyrolysis of biomass. The products distribution of pyrolysis of three components of biomass has some commonness and some difference. Combined with GC-MS and GC-FTIR analysis, experimental result showed that bio-oil produced from cellulose mainly composed of LG and HAA, bio-oil from xylan mainly composed of acid compounds and aldehyde compounds, while bio-oil from lignin composed of phenol compounds with different functional groups such as methoxyl group, alkyl group and hydroxyl group. We research the thermal stability of the main product.For the catalysis importance of metallic salts on biomass pyrolysis, the effect of K+, Ca2+, Na+ and Mg2+ on the products distribution of biomass pyrolysis was investigated on the radiation reactor by adding metallic salts and followed acid-washing. The catalysis of metallic salts on the bio-oil has selectivity.The content of O element of bio-oil is very high, which is in favor of its utilization. So bio-oil must be upgrade. The volatile of biomass by pyrolysis is catalysed in a reactor with catalyst bed. The infection of temperature to the catalytic reaction was investigated. The products distribution with the catalytic reaction was compared with that without the catalytic reaction.
