In this thesis, the rolling moment characteristics of long range canard missiles are studied, and the influence of downwash of canard is analyzed. As a result of canard fin deflections an asymmetric downwash flow field near the tail fins is induced, producing a so called reversed rolling moment.Wind tunnel investigation is conducted on six different canard configuration models over range of Mach from 0.8 to 2.5.The experiment data analyzes the regulation of rolling characteristics with Mach number and angle of attack, and the effect of rolling characteristics for different configurations is discussed. The rolling damping characteristics are also studied. The results indicate that canards are ineffective as rolling control devices for normal canard missiles, because noticeable reverse rolling moments are induced when the canard have rolling command deflection. With canard of small aspect ratio, small sweep angle and different dimensional postions, the reversed induced rolling moments could be reduced, even the phenomenon of anti-effect has disappeared completely. Wind tunnel experiments show that some new configutiongs improve the rolling control efflciency, allowing the canard to execute the rolling control. So,it is helpful for aerodynamic configuration design of long range missiles.
