| Modern Chinese society is a high developing society, and constructions are in the cities and countries. Chinese architecture's development takes an unprecedented speed. Under this background, the research of Chinese traditional local-style dwelling houses is lifted to a new height, and everybody wants to seek a manner which could bring the pith of the traditional architecture into the use in the modern Architectural Space, in order to keep the historical and cultural continuity of our dwelling architecture art, moreover, to enrich the designing skills of the modern decoration.This thesis takes the above discussion as its starting point, and makes researches about the dwelling houses' characteristics between north and south, with the history and general situation of the Chinese folk dwelling houses. In the process of research, importance is attached to the influence of social culture to the dwelling culture, the relation between dwelling architecture and its outdoor environment and the influence of social cultural system and customs to the dwelling life of people. This thesis takes the folk dwelling houses in West Sichuan area as example, and discusses the externality, structure, structural characteristics, expression of architectural aesthetics and typical indoor decoration at length.
