Characteristics of biomass pyroiysis on a horizontal entrained flow bed reactor (HEFBR) was studied, the temperature monitoring system and spray quenching system of HEFBR were developed.Firstly, several major biomass pyroiysis processes and technologies were summarized.The design and operation of the spray quenching system for biomass pyroiysis was described in detail in the thesis, and the experimental parameters for spray quenching were determined through a series of pre-experiments. The biomass pyroiysis liquefaction apparatus were then designed, fabricated and tested in different biomass pyroiysis experimental reactors, HEFBR and circulating fluidized bed reactor (CFBR). The performance of the spray quenching system determined form the experiments could be used as the foundation for industrial application.Since the experimental parameters must be real-time monitored, controlled, displayed and recorded automatically during the pyroiysis of biomass for analyzing the reaction process, a computer temperature monitoring system was developed for monitoring the reaction temperatures at different positions in the HEFBR. The temperature measuring accuracy was improved and the labor intensity was reduced by using this system.The optimum experimental parameters of the spray quenching system for different reactors were determined through series of different pyroiysis experiments.Finally, the solid, liquid and gaseous reactants from the pyroiysis were analyzed, and the physical and chemical properties of the bio-oil were determined in the laboratory.
