The study of biomass volatilization characteristics is essential for the processof pyrolysis and the design of biomass fast pyrolysis apparatuses in thedevelopment of biomass pyrolysis thchnology. This study was based on the previous fast pyrolysis researches. In order todetermine the volatilization characteristics of white pine powder at high heatingrate, a laminar entrained flow reactor (LEFR) was used.Firstly, in order to get a more reasonable pyrolysis kinetic model, the velocitydistribution of argon flow in the LEFR was studied by particle image velocimetry(PIV) under various flow rates. The experimental results of PIV were analyzedwith the theory of hydrodynamics and the velocity distribution characteristics ofargon flow in the LEFR were then summarized.Secondly, the feeding system of the LEFR was improved to ensure acontinuous and stable feed stock feeding. The temperature was measured anddisplayed with a computer data acquisition system developed for the LEFR.At last, the experimental method for determining the pyrolyzed volatilizationcharacteristics of biomass with low-ash content was discussed. Pine power, inwhich the ash content is very low, was used for flash pyrolysis experiments inLEFR. The effects and mechanism of the reaction temperature and residence timeon the pyrolysis were analyzed. A first-hand kinetic model of biomass pyrolysis inthe reactor was proposed and the kinetic parameters were determined (A and E).Since the predicted values were quite agree with the measured values, so themodel was correct and reasonable.
