Due to the rapid increase of nonlinear load and high demand of power quality, Active power filter (APF) is a new method to solve harmonic pollution that doesn't have the disadvantages of the traditional method to realize harmonic elimination and VAR compensation which uses the LC filters. Its harmonic elimination and VAR compensation use IGBT. The article firstly analyzes the IGBT electromagnetic transient, simulates the circuit with Multisim2001, and discusses the effect on important parameter-distributed inductance and drive resistance. Then voltage parallel active power filter is deeply discussed on its topopogy structure and control method. In this article, fuzzy adaptive PID controller is particularly introduced to current tracing for optimizing PID parameters. In order to realize APF multifunction and gain higher quality with higher value, capacitor in the DC side uses a new apparatus called super capacitor, and the experiment result shows well operating characteristic.
