This paper investigates the buckling of thin—walled cantilevers. Compared with simple supported beam , it is much more complex with the cantilevers' boundary conditions .so it is much more difficulty with its stability calculate .especially on horizontal load .whose buckling mode cannot be expressed by simple functions. so , it is until now ,people have not found its solutions besides rectangle sections , it is mostly numerical value. At present, only minority countries' design codes give its design items . our countries' steel structure design code (GB50017) is based on simple supported beam ' formula , through amending the coefficient , it gives double symmetry I-section cantilever ' formula. This paper using finit element analysis software ANSYS , it inverstigates the buckling of rolling H-section cantilevers .Through using the shell 181 element and putting the original deformation , residual sress into the model , simulate its real situations , this paper carries on elastical buckling analysis and plastical buckling analysis .When the cantilevers is very short compared to its length .the crancle happened on plastical stage , according to finit element ansys , the original disfigurement has very little influences on its stability . on the other hands , it has very notability influences on its stability. The paper using ANSYS to model the structure , based on the present literature .through a mass of calculate .combining the thin—walled member theory , it gives the calculate formula of rolling H-section cantilevers on stability. Moreover , this paper gives a qualitative analysis of cantilevers with side supports.
