The water and sediment fluxes coming from Changjiang River are two important estuarine boundary conditions, which control the law of estuarine evolution. And the estuary is a representative area in the study of Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ). In this paper, wavelet translation method was used to analyze the Datong's monthly water flux field data from 1946 to 2004 and sediment flux data from 1951 to 2004, and Datong is a dominant hydrological station of the Changjiang River Estuarine. The data series are divided into wet seasons (from May to October) and dry seasons (from November to April next year). Several results were drawn. We could know the detail characteristics of water and sediment flux time series at different time scales, such as multi-scale change structures, the period surge, the position and distribution of break points. And then future change trends were predicted by the main periods. The water discharge time series decreased as a whole in wet seasons and increased in dry seasons but the amplitude was small, then the change trend of the annual average water flux series was not distinct, but had some rebound in recent years. There was a clear difference of water flux between the wet and dry seasons, which radio was about 2.44. By wavelet analysis and the time-frequency distribution charts, some distinct conclusions were drawn. The wet seasons' water flux change had a good consistency with the annual average's. The main periods of annual and wet seasons were 12~13a, 6a, 2a and 1a in importance sequence, and that of dry seasons were 13a, 2a and 1a. The smaller the time scale was, the more complexly the series changed and the better phasic consistency. At 12a scale, the period surges were the biggest, and the skip points of the three time series separately were: annual series in 1960 and 1988, wet seasons in 1961 and 1991, and dry seasons in 1957 and 1984. So the series were cut into three parts, and the media part was short of water, the other two parts were floodwater years. It is predicted by the main periods and the time-frequency charts that the flux will reduce but still close to the annual average in the next few years and will increase after 2010.The change characteristics of the sediment flux are following: the series decrease greatly from 1951 to 2004. The time-frequency charts showed the sediment series different periods and break characteristics at different time scales. The three series' main periods were 16a, 2a and la, and 16a period surge was the most distinct. The...
