Power industry is the foundation of national economy, the electric power product should be a safe, reliable, economical, sound energy. Distribution automation is an effective means to enhance power supply reliability and energy quality, and also an important research topic in power distribution area in our country. As the kernel detection apparatus of the distribution automation, Transformer Terminal Unit (TTU) has became more and more important .The paper expatiated the functions and performance of TTU, analyzed and compared the algorithm and implement methods of TTU in detail. Having studied the achievement and development made in domestic and abroad, the paper brought forward a new type of TTU which has more functions, more performance and more market-competency aiming at the current device defects.The paper brought forward a new design of TTU based on 16-bit Digital Signal Processor MC56F8346. This design used the three phase power/energy IC(SA9904B of SAMES company) as a measurement module. The SA9904B can measure the voltage, power/energy and frequency of the signal, which simplified the design of hardware and software flow and made the result become more exact. In order to make full use of the periphery module functions of MC56F8346, the communications, such as GPRS, CAN and so on, has been introduced in the design. The communication ability of the apparatus has been improved.In the design process of software, the CodeWarrior Integrated Debug Environment was chosen and the Processor Expert beans was applied. That made the application become more easy and improved the development process, implemented the exact measure of electric power parameter has been implemented according to the research of three phase power/energy IC, SA9904B . In order to implement harmonic analysis of electric power parameters, the analogy signal was also sampled by the Analogy-to-Digital(ADC) of MC56F8346. The plural sequences FFT theory and the realization method are analyzed as the key point. Applying these theories has improved the efficiency of harmonic analysis of the apparatus. The apparatus can add or remove the capacitors to compensate reactive power of power network. And adjust the voltage magnitude by changing the situation of running node of transformer , The power supply reliability and energy quality would be improved through the method integration.
