The prevalence of computers and the rapid development of optimization algorithms have fascinated and inspired generations of structual engineers to optimize various structures and their members by combining computer technology and advanced optimal methods.Base on such a background the author puts forward a research program on shape optimization design of structural element sections,which is thought to have a broad prospect in pratice.The traditional optimal method and the shape optimization design of structural element sections are introduced to readers in the first three chapters.As the shape optimization design of structural element sections belong to structural optimization,which has its own traits such as discreteness, nondifferentiable and non-convexity,while the traditional optimal methods are not applicable.Noticing that a branch of modern optimization algorithms,the evolutionary structural optimization(ESO) method has a peculiar ability of bionic simulation with relaxed optimal conditions and better optimization results, which make it possible to be applied to structural optimization.The anthor introduced this methord farther on this research program.Since the programs' compilation of finite element technology in the ESO methord is intricate and the results are less reliable,the implementation of ESO is improved in the first part from the fourth chapter,let ANSYS be the substitute of manual program,which would saves time of computation and increase the reliability of optimization results.According to the test results, nesting the programs of ESO into the ANSYS with APDL language is successful, and the methord has well adaptability and stability. In the second part, users can optimize all kinds of idiographic structural element sections' shape conveniently by using this established optimal programs. Results of examples show that ESO method and its implementation base on ANSYS are highly feasible and effective in the shape optimization design of structural element sections.And then, based on the analysis of shape optimal results, size optimal of structural element sections is carried into execution and variable cross-section is designed by using parameter optimization module of ANSYS,which are able to guide engineers to make a rational decision on selecting structural elememt sections in real design projects.At last,joining with the ESO methord the steel beams with web openings are optimized in its topology.During the optimization design some experience from real design projects is referred to make the optimal results more reasonable and feasible.
