At present, the research on compensating reactive power using static compensation device is one of the most active areas in power system subject. As a new Var compensator and one of the FACTS equipments, the static Var compensator attracts extensive attention for its perfect performance such as smooth regulation of Var and dynamic capability, however it still in the start stage in the domestic country. The paper proposes the Static Var Generator (SVG) realization method by using IGBT inverters, studying and analyzing it deeply.Firstly, the existing compensation devices are compared and the SVG's superior performance is analyzed. In this thesis, the compensation performance of SVG is studied according to dynamic compensation theory; several typical control methods are summarized and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed; the instantaneous reactive power theory and it's application to reactive power control and detection are introduced. Secondly, the configuration and parameters of SVG's power circuit and protect circuit , and the hardware and software of its digital control system are researched and designed respectively .Finally, SVG systems simulation using the two control models are accomplished with MATALAB, and the simulation result is analyzed , it presented to verify the correctness and advantage of production in this thesis .
