Among different type of embankment dam, the Earth Core Rock-fill Dam (ERCD) possessed prodigious proportion. In these latter years, ECRD has gradually evolved as one of trunk stream type of dam in the world. According to the statistics at the beginning of nineties of 20th century,among the constructed and being constructed high dam, ECRD is in the proportion of 55.5% around the world. Since the nineties of 20th century. ECRD has developed a lot inland. When we design ECRD, the material of core for anti seepage is in the extreme important. At home and abroad, the native soil, the eolian soil, the moraine, the diluvial soil, the age-old river sediments and the recent river shoal sediments were researched as material core for ECRD.Gravelly soil is wide-ranging distributing in nature. The reservers of gravelly soil is rich. And the engineering properties, etc. compaction performance, reclamation density, shear strength, little subsidence, bearing capacity, is great. So gravelly soil has been widely used for impervious element of embankment dam. The spreading gradation gravelly soil is a kind of clayey coarse-grained soil. It's also a soil-rock mixtures. It's often divided into fine material and coarse material by the save of 5mm and the distributed gradation affects its project characteristics directly.
