The economic and reliable operation of power system requires an exact and fast determination of the point where a fault occurs. A method of quickly and accurately locating transmission line faults has been a much-desired tool for control center operators and the repair crews. Because of it is measurement accuracy ,the fault location system based on traveling wave has been widely used in power system and it is also an important research area in electrical engineering.Traveling wave is a mutation and singularity signal. The paper discuss the singularity detection theory of wavelet transform, this theory is applied to analysis of fault characteristics of the transient traveling waves. On the basis of analyzing the existing traveling wave velocity measuring methods, the paper proposed a scheme of using the wave of automatic combine brake to measure the traveling wave velocity of real time.In fault location system based on traveling wave, the measurement accuracy of traveling wave velocity influenced the fault location accuracy to a certain extent. Traveling wave's frequency is more than hundreds thousand Hertz. it's velocity of transmit near the speed of light and influenced by the parameter of the line. But the parameter of the line is hard to nicety measured. So on the basis of analyzing the factors influencing the measurement accuracy of traveling wave velocity, the influence of traveling wave velocity on fault location accuracy and existing traveling wave velocity measuring methods, the authors proposed that for a fault on the transmission line, using the wave of single phase automatic combine brake to...
