With the developing of economy and the increasing of automobile quantity, the shortage of petroleum is becoming more and more severe. All these problems provide strong encouragement for the research on alternative fuels. Ethanol, being a renewable source, has gained the attention of the entire world. In order to obtain detailed information on applying ethanol for diesel engine, more work need to be done. As the way that ethanol diesel fuel blending does not disrupt the existing diesel fuel supply and distribution infrastructure, there should be as little modification to existing engines as possible. In this paper, power and economic performance and emission and combustion characteristics of diesel engine with ethanol diesel blend fuel were investigated.The studies show that the density, low heat value, cetane number, viscosity of the blends decrease with the increasing content of ethanol in the blends. The distillation characteristics of the blends are very high in the low range of temperatures. Solvent can better the solubility of ethanol diesel blend fuels. Engine dynamometer tests indicated that diesel engine fueled with ethanol diesel blends runs better and no abnormal problems could be. The power performance of diesohol engine is same as that of diesel engine while the engine's combustion system is not modified. Compared with diesel engine, economic performance of diesohol engine deteriorates, thermal efficiency and NOX emissions increase at high load while they decrease at light load,...
