Wear metals in lubricating oils for heavy-duty truck diesel engine is an important factor to affact the anti-wear ability and the lubricating ability of lubricating oils. When the contents of wear metals in the lubricating oils reach a certain value, the lubricating ability of the oil will decline greatly. If not replace the lubricating oils in time, it will debase the use life of the engine, and also affact the emissions, power and fuel economy. For these reasons, the analysis of the content of wear metals in lubricating oils for heavy-duty truck diesel engine and ascertain the replacing period of lubricating oils is a practical and imperative task.To use the ICP spectrometer to analyze the elements in lubricating oils, is a advanced analysis method in the world lately. It takes place of the traditional chemical analysis method and AAS method, and it has the advantages of fast analysis, multi-elements analysis simultaneity, low detect limit, and high veracity etc. To use the ICP spectrometer to analyze the wear metals in lubricating oils in order to ascertain the replacing period of lubricating oils is a comparative new task in automobile industry. We used OPTIMA-4300DV ICP spectrometer manufactured by PE Company USA in this research work. It is the comparative advanced instrument in the world, and it has the characteristics of high stability, wid linearity range, and it also could analyze the hard excited elements. It has axial and radial dual view dist, this will insure that the mainly elements and trace elements could be analyzed simultaneously. According to the characteristics of the oil analysis, all test conditions and factors should be determined by experiments. Since the elements are different in content, the analysis wave length should be selected...
