Pure bending is taken as a basic load type in this thesis, and a system analysis of lateral stability of I-beam is carried out. Influence of the alterations of a series section parameters upon the critical bending moment is analyzed, and finally some beneficial conclusions are gotten.ANSYS is used as the finite element analysis tool in this paper. According to the current research result, the parabola curve residual stress model is used. Influence of residual stress upon the integral stability capacity of I-beam is analyzed firstly. From the entire analysis, it can be concluded that I-beams of slenderness ratio from 1.0 to 1.6 are sensitive to residual stress. The influence is less than 5 percent of the total critical bending moment.Base on the above analysis, a series of analysis according to alterations of section parameters are carried out, and the relation curves of critical bending moment with the alterations are gotten accordingly. It can be concluded that augmentation of the width of flange can enhance the critical bending moment of I-beams of relatively big slenderness ratio, similarly, augmentation of the height of web-plate can enhance the critical bending moment of I-beams of smaller slenderness ratio.
