Following the leap-over development of railway and speed-up of passenger car in China, the freight car develops towards heavy hual and fast-speed which make the traditional brake system not to adapt to the development of freight cars. The car brake system is a key part to ensuring safe operation of train. Compared with existing 21 ton axle load freight car, the heavy hual car improves greatly in performance which demands preferable brake system. Based on brake system design of 25 ton axle load freight car, considering actuality of freight car in China, the heavy hual brake systems produced in China as well as abroad are analyzed and compared, and the brake system of 25 ton axle load freight car was optimused. Finally, the brake system of heavy hual which adapt to Chinese railway is put forward. In this paper, charging time, brake and release rate, brake and release wave celerity and longitudinal impact were analyzed. The results show that the type 120 air brake system is fit for 25t axle weight freight car in China. Through analyzing slide between wheel set & rails and calculating emergency brake distance of load car, the paper points out that KZW-4GA or TWG-1 empty/load automatic adjuster with 150 MPa output pressure in reservoir can satisfy 25 ton heavy hual freight car. And 25 ton axle load freight car should be equipped with foundation brake rigging of two sides' brake shoe working, swing sealing brake reservoir of 305mm diameter, type ST-250 bidirectional automatic slack adjuster, high friction brake shoe made of compositive material and the whole brake ratio should be range from 7.49 to 8.79 by analyzing brake shoe load, brake cooling ability, brake force transmission and maintenance.
