This paper introduces some ways of compute the grounding resistance, and computes the grounding resistance of the Huayuan substation, and compares the result of computing with its of testing. Then computes xiangyang substation, by comparing and analyzing the performances difference of large copper and steel material, this paper draws some useful conclusion.The conclusion indicates: the way of the simple formula is satisfied to the requirements of engineering design; comparing with steel material, copper has better electric, better heat-resistant, lower erodible, more convenient in constructions, longer life, less pollution to the soil. Although using copper material, the earlier investment is larger, in long view, it is reasonable.
