On the whole, ship structural design often based on ship beam-theory and large numbers of empirical formulas. There are much limitations and abuses in it. At the present time, the researches on ship structural strength through direct calculation often focus on the model of part-cabin, but it has obvious faults.Compared with the inland ship and sea-going ship, the river-to-sea ship has its own characters, such as the arrangement of ship's cabin and the ship body structure, even deffrence from the load they subjected. If we want to get the accurate stress and strain conclusion through FEM for this kind of ships, we must use special method. It's obviously more reasonable to carry on the direct calculation of strength to the whole hull structure. The domestic and international main classification society also has the direct calculation and analytical guidebook about whole hull structure strength to large ship, such as large contianer ship (has large deck openings) etc. Because of allowing to simplify the computational model of ship structure, it still has approximate composition in the result. With the fast development of computer's software and hardware, it doesn't have any difficulty in principle to carry on the direct calculation and analysis to the whole hull's structural strength by the finite elment mesh model based on the hull frame and longitudinal stiffener span. But, this method involves many factors and a large amount of work. So its application is still not extensive, especially in the domestic. This thesis takes a 130m river-to-sea bulk carrier as an example to have a research on the direct calculation of strength to the whole hull structure through FEM and various problems in the process. This ship's structure has the features such as long span, big cabin and large deck-openings. Just because of this, it's very hard for us to evaluate the ship structural strength, which based on whole strength calculation method. The calculation software MSC.Patran, MSC.Nastran (the edition 2001 r3s) are adopted to establish the model and analyze the distribution of deformation and...
