The helical gear transmission system which is one important component of marine shafting has been widely applied in marine power plant. The marine gear transmission system operates in atrocious operating condintions, and frequently receives impacting load. Especially, when the clutch engages or seperates, the impact between helical gears is extremely fierce, so that the gear teeth are easy to break off, both safe operation and useful live of the gears are affected. The research results show the important theory significance and practical application value in design, optimization, employment and maintenance of this system.This paper solves the following important problems:1. When air clutch engages or steadily runs or seperates, the impact moment of helical gears is analyzed, the mathematical expression among the impact moment and time, revolution is given.2. Under both impacting contacts and running, the mathematical model of base temperature field of helical gears is established.3. The three-dimension finite element precise model of helical gears is established and impacting calculation is made in this model, the von mise stress, contact pressure and distortion are compared with in different engaging speed and time..4. The temperature distribution of helical gears is analyzed under different oil temperature with the basic principle of heat transfer, tribology, Blok theory and gear mesh.The findings indicate that: â‘  The impacing moment of gears is the function of time and speed. When the clutch engages, the impacing moment is more affectd with speed than time. The engaging time of the air clutch in this project is longer, so that the impacting load of gears is less in engaging process, not excesses its allowable range, and shorting the engaging time is suggested to improve marine maneuverability. â‘¡ The gear body temperature is not more changeful nearer the contact face's maximum value spot, and closed to lubricating oil temperature apart...
