Membrane structure is a new kind of tension structure carried load within membrane materials. When the structure is applying the loads, wrinkling will occur on membrane surface very easily because of its negligible bending stiffness. The presence of wrinkles on membrane surface may influence the face of construction and behavior of the structures. Therefore, simulating wrinkling correctly, analyzing mechanism of wrinkles and developing rules and its influence for membrane structures is proposed.Regarding the wrinkle analysis of the membrane structures, some studies have been conducted to date, most of which are based on the Tension field theory. These methods used simply and can identify the wrinkling range correctly as well. However, it is deficient in the simulation of wrinkling shape and its detail message. Due to the fact that the wrinkle analysis is a type of the thin shell buckling analysis, the method of the wrinkle analysis would utilize the method about shell buckling analysis. As a matter of fact, few studies have been conducted for the aforementioned conception by some foreign scholars, but it failed to generalize because of the time-consuming computation. Nowadays, with the development of the computer technology and the nonlinear finite element software, it's come true for us to account for some complicated problems. Therefore, this paper simulates the whole process of the membrane structure working on loads, which is based on the ABAQUS code used plate-shell elements and search after the rule how the wrinkle occurs and develops which found the advanced behave of the membrane structure.Firstly, this paper summarizes the elementary wrinkle theory and research methods systemically based on numerous references and emphases on the basic idea,elementary methods and advantage about both tension field theory and thin-shell theory, which is done to found the latter work about wrinkle simulation based on thin-shell theory.Secondly, this paper discusses the numerical technique about wrinkle simulation used plate-shell element in ABAQUS code.
