Proton exchange membranes (PEM) is a key component of fuel cells, and it has double functions of conducting protons, separating fuels and oxidant. At present the performance and price of Nafion sulfonic acid PEMs used in PEMFC are deeply concerned.Although the Nafion membranes has the very high proton conduction rate and the usage stability, but the methyl alcohol permeates from the anode to the cathode very seriously, resulting in the function of the battery wes decend. In order to let up methyl alcohol to permeate from the anode to the cathode, lower the cost of the membranes in the same time. Sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) and sulfonated polyther sulfone (SPES) membranes with various degree of sulfonation (DS) were prepared, In order to reduce the swelling and increase the strength of SPEEK and SPES, a series of blend membranes of both sulfonated polyther ether ketone (SPEEK) and polyether sulfone (PES) , SPEEK and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) , SPES and PES, SPES and PVDF, Heteropoly acids (HPAs) are known to be the most conductive solides among the inorganic solid electrolytes at room temperature, and they considered as a new kind of electrolyte for fuel cell applications. Worrying about the nature of the HPAs water soluble, In this text, we prepared the the feasibility of SPEEK and HPAs for liquid DMFC applications. Study on the water uptake, proton conductivity and methanol barrier property as a function of the membrane compositions are discussed. Compared to the Nafion117 membrane currently used in dirdct methanol fuel cells(DMFC),this blend membranes are alcohol rejecting ability is better while a certain high conductivity is maintained and lower cost.Cross-linking method was successful applied in the modifications of SPEEK and SPES membranes, which is not only enrich the preparation technongy of PEM, but also has important significance to modify performance, reduce the cost and promote the commercial application of fuel cell.
