With the development of the economy in our country, large span bridges are developed rapidly. Among them, the continuous rigid frame bridge with large span is one of the main types of bridges that are applied widely. There are several dozens of existing or under-construction continuous rigid frame bridges with large span in China. However, China is earthquake-prone country, where is a necessity to analyze the responses of these bridges as lifeline structures deeply and precisely, especially these bridges with large span.In this paper, the basic theories of seismic response analysis are introduced. The seismic response analysis and elastoplastic time history analysis are carried out on Niu-jiaoping Bridge in Xiangyu railway with artificial earthquake wave generated according to the site of the bridge under severe earthquake. The main research works included in this paper are :1. To constract calculation model with finite element method;2. analyze the vibration characteristics of the bridge;3. generate artificial earthquake wave in the site condition of bridge;4. investigate plastic behavior of the bridge with plastic hinge element;The results indicate that plastic deformation occurs at the top of the bridge columns with small amplitude of plastic deformation. The longitudinal and transversal residual displacements of the bridge is small, which comply with the aseismic requirements quite well.
