The frictional contact phenomenon is widely seen in engineering and daily lives. The multiple nonlinear properties of three-dimensional frictional contact problems make its calculation difficult. At the present time, we can solve frictional contact problems by different means. The iterative method is popularly used in engineering calculations. This method is simple and easy to actualize, but the convergence cannot be guaranteed. It is always a difficult problem to find an effective method which is exact and convergence guaranteed.Study of frictional contact problems is done in this paper. After summarize of the known methods, model of contact problems is established and a fixed point method is introduced. This method overcomes the difficulty of determining the slipping angle at contact nodes, which is caused by the uncertain directions of the relative slipping. No additional variable is imported. The numerical results accord with the contact states exactly and the convergence is guaranteed. This method is applied in the calculation program. Nakai's constitutive model and a stable and fast convergent algorithm for the numerical integration of elasto-plastic models are inducted in the elasto-plastic finite element calculation of the rockfill dam and the applicability is verified. This method is applied to compute the cantilever beam. The comparison of fixed point method and finite element software suggests that this method is highly efficient. In application of fixed point method, this method is used to analyze a rockfill dam. In order to make the calculation data visualized, research of finite element post treatment is done. The fixed point method fits engineering requires perfectly.Analyzing the frictional contact problems in engineering structures and knowing the contact and stress status is of great importance in designing, construction or strengthening. The work done in this paper can be some help for the study and application of numerical methods for frictional contact problems.
