As an important weapon of the Navy, Torpedo has demonstrated critical combat functions and deterrence effects in the past numerous sea wars. As the ears and eyes of self-guided torpedo which is moving with high speed under the water, SGS (Self-Guidance System)'s contribution is equal to an intelligent control centers of the self-guided torpedo. To extend the operating range of SGS, one of the trends of the SGS is working at low frequency. However, to get a big radiation power and keep the expected beam pattern at low frequency, the SGS with normal planar array cannot satisfy the request. Adopting the form of conformal array can enlarge the area of radiations and increase the array-gain and obtain a longer operating range at the same time. The work presented in this dissertation focuses on measuring operating range between conformal array and planar array. The main content can be outlined as follows:1 , The Torpedo SGS theory is discussed." Then the active and passive detecting model and methods of measuring operating range are given. Instrument parameters of SGS affecting measuring operating range are discussed and their corresponding models are given.2 , The character of factors in underwater transmission channel is analyzed and their corresponding mathematical models are given. The target strength and target radiating noise strength are studied, and then their corresponding applicative models are given.3 ,The method of measuring operating range of typical torpedo is presented. We analyzed the relation among the longest self-guided distance of torpedo, the longest geometry operating range of torpedo and operating range of torpedo in practice, and contact with operating range and guided angle direction.4, A number of experiments were performed to check the effect of measuring operating range between conformal array and planar array. In sum, operating range based on conformal array is better than planar array's in terms of our study.
