The cold-formed thin-walled channel column is used more and more in the construction industry, in which, the cold-formed thin-walled lipped channel column, as we know, because producing of it is easier than those in close section , is accepted and used widely . As we notice that the section shape of this kind of column is single-axial symmetry, when it is compressed under load, it will lose stability with distorting before its failure pressure, which results in the unfully usage of the capacity. As one of several primary distortion modes, distortional buckling is receiving more and more attentions. Based on the existing achievements around the world on the distortional buckling, we decide to increase clapboards along a column to improve the load capacity. In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) software of ABAQUS is used. According to analyses, we have found that when the clapboard spacing is a half of half-wave length of distortional buckling, the improvement is much effective and there will be 10% to 50% improvement. In the end of this paper, it designs a series of experimentation to validate the conclusion.
