Public spaces are not only the open spaces, such as parks, squares and grassplots, but also those no designed diffuse spaces used by people spontaneously. The diffuse space is a part of public space. It is used by people spontaneously, and those designed spaces that are used differently then the designer in(?)d are also diffuse spaces. The diffuse spaces result from city life because of actions from design, economy, history and nature, and are widely scattered in the city. It is often ignored and dispelling in our lives although it is used widely.From analysis on the sorts, constructions and characters of the diffuse space in Kun Ming city, the research reveal how the diffuse space acts, how it is used and the people who use it. Because of its character as public space, performing city's functions and its positive actions for safety and for people in poor conditions, the diffuse space is worthwhile. But on the other hand, the diffuse space creates passivity in the city.The diffuse space results partly from design. So next, the research queries designers about how to treat diffuse space, if designers can do something for the people living in it and most importantly, who we are designing for.Finally, the analysis focus on diffuse space in Qingnian road of Kun Ming city , emphasizing on the diffuse spaces' position, use, constitutions, and propose some devices for the improving of diffuse spaces' conditions.
