In terms of the general policy of country's power system developing,±800kV UHVDC technology will be used in the project of hydropower delivering in Yunnan and Jinshajiang. So the research related is of great importance in building this delivering system, especially the problem of overvoltage.The fault and characteristic of overvoltage was analyzed. Electromagnetic transient simulation model of the transmission line and comparison of power system simulation software were researched. Take a±800kV UHVDC project for study. The overvoltage simulation model was established by use of PSCAD/EMTDC. The AC fault, last breaker's trip, valve misfire at inverter side and DC transmission line fault were studied. Finally the voltage was lowered through optimizing control for last breaker's trip. Conclusion supplied a basic overvoltage data and cut the cost of insulation design.
