Bearingless switched reluctance motor is a new switched reluctance motor which developed on the basis of traditional switched reluctance motor (switched reluctance motor is called SRM for short). Bearingless SRM has combined characteristics of switched reluctance motor and magnetic bearings, which can effectively avoid the disadvantages from mechanical bearing of SRM, because the rotor is supported by magnetic force from the motor itself. Besides traditional applied fields, bearingless SRM is applied many fields, such as machine tools with high speed, turbine molecular pump, eccentric machine, flywheel and so on and it has a tendency to develop to high speed and super high speed which to reduce volume and weight of motor, which has the same power (which has great significance for aviation spaceflight field). It is a program for pursuing for national high-tech to develop research of bearingless SRM, which has great scientific significance and will bring great economic and societal benefits, because their widely applied foreground.In this paper, basic structure of bearingless SRM is proposed; basic characteristics and electromagnetic relationships are analyzed in detail; mathematic model is established; experimental motor is designed for what system calls for; and the rule of design for bearingless SRM is summarized. Using large finite element analysis software, static characteristic of bearingless SRM, including the distribution of magnetic field, radial force, torque, magnetic flux density and so on, is calculated to find rules of distribution of magnetic field of bearingless SRM when there are different angles of rotor position, and main winding and radial force winding currents, whether there is the rotor eccentricity, and the parameters of bearingless SRM designed is verified and according to analytic results.According to the base of the thesis and the method proposed in the paper, experimental motor is made to verify the academic analysis and designed methods.
